Raymond R. Korwek
Hobart, Indiana

Raymond Robert Korwek, age 80, a longtime resident of Hobart passed away on Friday, January 7th,. He was born on February 23, 1930 in Gary, Indiana the son of Leo and Theresa Korwek.
In high school Ray was a superior athlete, excelling in baseball, basketball, football and track at Tolleston High School in Gary, Indiana. Ray joined the Marine Corp and spent one tour of duty in the Korean War. Ray was a member of the Teamsters Union for over 30 years and he was a member of the American Legion Post 270 for 50 years. Ray's wife Betty passed away on October 3rd, 2009. Betty and Ray had been part of each other's lives from the age of 13 years old. They were married on April 5, 1951 in Gary and had celebrated 58 years of marriage.

Ray was an avid sports fan. He loved his Chicago White Sox, Boston Celtics, Notre Dame Football, Indiana University Basketball and the Chicago Football Cardinals who eventually migrated to warmer climates, ending in Arizona. He loved sitting outside during the summer months, barbequing while sucking down a cold one.

Ray is survived by his loving family, sons James (Debra) Korwek, Orlando, FL, Terry Lee (Sandra) Korwek, San Diego, CA, and David (Beth) Korwek, Valparaiso, grandchildren Marshal, Zak, and Jennifer, brothers Bob Korwek of Portage, Fred Korwek of Merrillville, and Jerry (Jan) Korwek of Highland, and many other loving family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his son Timmy Lee Korwek

Dad, we all love you very much and we will miss you very much.

A visitation for Ray Korwek will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 14, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home- Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Morning prays will be offered at 9:30 am on Saturday 15,2011 at Rees Funeral Home followed by a mass of Christain Burial at 10:00 am at Saint Bridget's Catholic Church, 568 East 2nd Street, Hobart, with Father Dominic Bertino, officiating. Burial will be at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville.
