Raymond E. Bliss

Age 83, a lifetime Portage resident, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Hobart surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born on June 29, 1929 to the late Albert and Erma Bliss in Hammond, Indiana. Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Korean War, was a member of American Legion Post 502 and retired in 1991 Midwest Steel where he worked as a Roll Grinder. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed making homemade canes. Ray will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his 2 sons; Eric (Jerri) Bliss of Portage, Roy (Cheryl) Leath of Hobart, 3 daughters; Pamela (Jim Yetsko) Crook of Portage, Julie (Skip) Fitzgerald of Jackson Township, Laura Ancell of Portage, 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, brother; Dean (Charlie) Bliss of Arkansas, sister; Cora (William) McCaw of Griffith, sister-in law Gerry Bliss of Oklahoma, many other loving family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife; Hilda Bliss, parents, brothers; Leroy and Luther Bliss and sister; Ella Ranke.
A funeral service for Ray will be held Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 11am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana. Burial at Calvary Cemetery, Portage. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 14, 2012 from 2-8 pm with a 7:00pm American Legion Service also at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.
