RAYMOND "RAY" DIAZ, age 50, of Portage, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the University of Chicago Hospital. Ray was a lifelong Northwest Indiana resident and owner of Ray's Shrimp House in Gary. He was a devoted husband, loving father, son and brother who will be missed by all of his loving friends and relatives. Ray enjoyed fishing, camping and riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle.
Ray is survived by his wife, Norma, 4 daughters, Lynette, Yvette, Monica and Rachel, father, Homero Diaz of Portage, 2 sisters: Mary Rodriguez and Margo Diaz, all of Portage, numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lenore.
Visitation for Ray will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Rees Funeral Home, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, from 2-8 pm with a 4:00pm rosary. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 10 am with Rev. Andrew Corona at Nativity Of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek, Portage. He will be taken to church at 9 am Thursday morning for visitation from 9 am until Mass begins at 10 am. Burial will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery in Portage.
