Raymond L. Kearby, age 93, of Portage, passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 2, 1923 in Ireland, Indiana to the late Charles and Eleanor (nee Brosmer) Kearby. Raymond was an active 1026 Union worker; he was an active member and custodian at Trinity United Methodist Church in Hobart, Indiana. He retired from Blaw Knox where he worked as a machinist. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
Raymond is survived by his son, Bill Kearby of Portage, IN; daughter, Beth (Bill) Trella of Portage, IN; son-in-law, Steve Gurgon; grandchildren, Tracy(Keith) Hughes, Phil (Rachel), Scott (Debbie), David (TJ), Bryan, Angie, Kristina Kearby, Ashby Gurgon; 8 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 69 yrs., Betty Jean Kearby; his parents; sons, David and Scott Kearby; daughter, Jana Gurgon; granddaughter, Kim Hennrich; great grandson, Tommy Hennrich, three sisters and five brothers.

Funeral Services will take place Friday, September 16, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, IN 46368, with Rev Michael Cover officiating. A visitation will be held Friday, September 16, 2016 from 10: 00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Private burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery.
