Retha M. Claxton, age 90, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014. She was born on August 13, 1924 and was raised in Athens, Al. She was married to Thomas Edward Claxton for 61 years. They came to this area in October of 1952. She was a Hobart resident for 54 years and a longtime member of the Hobart Church of Christ and later at the Portage Church of Christ.

Retha is survived by her four children; Joann Sink and LT. Col. Ret. Bernard Claxton, both of Lake Station, Patsy (Mike) Feltman of Trussville, Al., Lynda (Mike) Tuzinski of Portage, ten grandchildren; Randy (Robin) Sink of Chesterton, Laurie Coffing of Portage, Donny Claxton of Dallas, Texas, Richard Claxton, Tommy (Angie) Claxton, Kenny (Bethany) Claxton, Kimberly (Joe) Campbell, all of the Montgomery, Al. area, Deborah (Billy) Seals, Michelle Thomas, all of Trussville, Al., Casey (Tammy) Tuzinski of Portage; twenty-two great- grandchildren and many loving nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband , Thomas Edward Claxton, daughter, Charlotte, grandson, Jason Tuzinski, son-in-law, Jim Sink, parents, Elmer and Ellen Jackson and two brothers, Audie and Reedus Jackson.
Retha was truly a southern lady- and excellent wife, mother and housewife, great cook, talented seamstress and quilter. She was much loved by her entire family.A generous thanks to the Waters of Duneland of Chesterton for the care she was given the last two years.

A funeral service for Retha will be Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 10:00 am with Evangelist Jeremy Jones officiating at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342. Burial at Evergreen Memorial Park, Hobart, In. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 2-4 and 6-8 pm also at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
