Richard M. Chandler

Richard Murray Chandler, age 75, of Westville passed away Sunday, October 23, 2022 at the University of Chicago Hospital. He was born on November 4, 1946 in Shreveport, Louisiana to the late Jesse and Maurine Chandler. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. On February 1, 1970, he married Linda McGuffey in Gary, Indiana. Rick retired from Bethlehem Steel where he worked as a Metallurgist. Rick enjoyed singing Karaoke and will always be remembered for his stage name as Slick Rick at Casey's Lanes in LaPorte.  He was a very loving man and an amazing husband, father, grandfather and provider for his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Linda Chandler; son, Michael Chandler; daughter, Shelly Mangus; grandchildren, Jake (Hannah) Mangus, Ava Hardin; brother, Michael (Carrie) Chandler; brother-in-law, Steve 'Otie' Griffin; best friends, Terry (Jennifer) Handley and Mike (Debbie) Dembowski; many loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Maurine Chandler; brother, Larry Chandler; sister, Debbie Griffin.

A funeral service for Rick will take place Friday, October 28, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage with Rev. Chuck and Rev. Minnie Munsell officiating. He will be laid to rest at McCool Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. For more information, please call (219) 762-3013.
