Richard Lee (Dick) Freckelton, age 82, of Hobart, Indiana, passed away Monday, December 26, 2022, at home, surrounded by family.  Dick was born on November 22, 1940, in Hammond, Indiana to the late Fay Freckelton and Dessie (nee Moser) (Charles) Anderson.  He married Karen Kreyscher on November 10, 1962, in Hammond, Indiana and they spent 60 years together.  A 1959 graduate of Hammond Clark High School, Dick enlisted in the US Army.

Family was always his top priority and sports were the centerpiece of his life.  He excelled in football, basketball, track, and baseball in his younger years.  He umpired and coached for decades.  An avid bowler, Dick participated in several bowling leagues, which was made even more enjoyable when the team included his grandsons, Ben and Max.  Dick was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs.  He appreciated music, a lifelong joy.  He retired from Inland Steel after 25 years of service with his final position as a pickle line scheduler.  Dick was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Hobart for over 50 years.

He is survived by his loving wife; children, Scott (JoElla) Freckelton of Crown Point, Heidi (Ken) Moore of Hobart, and Holly (Von) Swift of Fishers; grandchildren, Jake Freckelton of Greensboro, NC, Kylee Freckelton of Bentonville, AR, Ben (Haley Sutherland) Moore of Hobart, Max Moore of Hobart, and Austin (Maggie) Swift of Carmel; sister, Gerry Grimmer; brother and sisters-in-law, Kirk (Barb) Lewis and Joann Freckelton; many nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Sam Moore; brothers, Raymond Freckelton and Donald (JoAnn) Freckelton; brother-in-law, Raymond Grimmer; and niece, Kathleen Price.

Visitation will be Friday, December 30, 2022, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Augustana Lutheran Church, 207 Kelly Street, Hobart, Indiana, 46342.  The funeral service will immediately follow at 12 pm.  He will be laid to rest at Ridgelawn Cemetery at a later date.
