Richard J. Godfrey

Age 94 passed away Thursday, January 16,2020 at St Mary's Medical Center in Hobart. He was born on April 26,1925 to the late Fred W. and Hazel Marie (nee Schroeder) Godfrey in Chicago, Illinois. He retired from Metra (Illinois Central Railroad) where he worked as a machinist. He married Lillian E. Shaffer on December 18, 2004. Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was a member of the VFW 9323 and American Legion Post 502. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lillian; two daughters, Bonnie (James) Buchanan and Doreen (Fred) Wiseburg; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Chuck (Millie) Godfrey; sister, Mildred Godfrey and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Misner Godfrey in 2002 son, James Fredrick Godfrey; his parents, Fred and Hazel and brother, Robert Godfrey.
