RICHARD D. HAYWOOD, age 82, of Lake Station, passed away at home on Saturday, May 22, 2021.
Richard was born on October 15, 1938 in West Frankfort, IL to the late George and Thelma Haywood. He was a veteran of the Army and served during the Vietnam War. Richard married the love of his life, Shirley (nee Coleman), and spent 45 years together. He worked for Inland Steel and retired after 36 years of service. Richard was a family man and never missed his children or grandchildren's events. He will be deeply missed.
Richard is also survived by his children: Ricky (Vicki) Haywood of Lake Station, Daryl (Susie) Haywood of New Chicago, Catherine (Park) Kingery of Crown Point, Eva (Steve) Cloyd of Portage, Michael (Cindy) Thompson of Valparaiso, and Mellody (Michael) Forsythe of Lake Station; brother: Roy (Dorothy) Haywood of Plymouth; grandchildren: Park Kingery, Jessica Redmon, Jody Howton, Jennifer Blankenship, Jillian Giangiulio, Ricky Haywood, Daniel Haywood, Scott Stover, Richie Haywood, Ashley Thompson, Jeremy Haywood, Dakota Guererro, Matthew Forsythe, Sarah Forsythe; 24 great-grandchildren; and nieces: Cheri and Rhonda.
Richard is also preceded in death by his brother: George Ivan Haywood.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. from Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel (5341 Central Ave., Portage) with Rev. John Hurt officiating. A visitation will be held at 10:00 A.M. and continue until the time of service. At rest: Calvary Cemetery.
