Richard S. Malis, age 79, of Portage, and formerly of Gary, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016.He was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1936 to the late Anthony and Anna (nee Mazilausky) Malis. Richard proudly served his country in the U.S Navy. He retired from US Steel in 1973 and was a member of Credit Union 1364, American Legion 260, Coast Guard Auxillary and Izaak Walton League. Richard was very proud of the work he had done for the Portage Retail Shop. He was a faithful member of Family Bible Church in Portage. He will be remembered as a loving, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Malis of Portage; two sons, Michael Joseph (Tamyla) Morris and Mark Anthony Morris; brother, Phillip Malis; two sisters, Patricia (Robert) Urig and Loretta (Richard) Johann; Four grandchildren, and many other loving family members and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Robert Malis.

Funeral service for Richard will be held Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 10:00 am with Pastor David Mc Grath officiating at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana 46368. Cremation will follow. A visitation for Richard will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. also at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.
