Richard A. Ondrovich, age 75, of Valparaiso, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at VNA Hospice Center. He was born on February 19, 1944 in Gary, Indiana to the late William and Evelyn Ondrovich. Rich proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserves. On November 22, 1969, he married Marilyn (nee Jastram) Ondrovich at St. Victor Church in Calumet City, Illinois. Rich graduated from St. Joe College and was self-employed as a Certified Public Accountant. Very active in his community, he served as past president of the Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce, the Porter County Sheriff's Merit Board and the Lakeside Meadows Homeowners Association. He served as a Boy Scout leader and dedicated time to helping all three of his sons become Eagle Scouts. In his free-time, he liked fishing for Coho on Lake Michigan, traveling to see family or new places and landscaping in his yard.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Marilyn Ondrovich; sons, Michael (Kristi) Ondrovich of Elkhorn, NE, David (Sherry) Ondrovich of Portage, IN, MSgt. Stephen (Laura) Ondrovich of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Laina Ondrovich, Andrew Ondrovich, Sarah Ondrovich and Matthew Ondrovich; sister, Joyce (William Pritchard) Ondrovich of Panama City, FL; several loving nieces, nephews, cousins and family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Evelyn Ondrovich; brother, William P. Ondrovich. Memorial contributions in Rich's name may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association Foundation, 2401 Valley Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383.
A funeral service for Rich will take place Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 7:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home. For more information, please call (219) 942-2109.
