Richard Walter Rataschak

Richard Walter Rataschak, age 80, of Portage and formerly of Alsip, Illinois passed away Saturday January 24, 2026, at the Brickyard Nursing Center in Portage. He was born November 29, 1945, in Chicago, IL to the late Walter and Bernice (Rudow) Rataschak. Richard was employed in the shipping and receiving department of ACME Steel for thirty years before retirement. He was an old-fashioned sort of man that enjoyed being a home body.

He is survived by his three children, David (Lisa) Rataschak of Portage, Kristin (Robert) Boer of Portage, and Nicole Rataschak of Elwood, Illinois; two grandchildren, Kayla and Mavis; and a great grandchild Kelsey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn (Coney) Rataschak; two sisters, Diane Lenney and Patricia Rataschak; a grandson Dominic Boer; and a granddaughter, Willow Boer.

A memorial visitation will be held for Richard from 5-8 pm Saturday February 21, 2026, at the Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Avenue Portage, Indiana 46368.
