Obituary

Richard Reich, age 89, of Crown Point passed away peacefully on April 22, 2015. He was born in Fairmont, West Virginia on October 10, 1925. Dick spent his childhood years in Morgantown, West Virginia. He leaves behind his favorite and only son, Kevin (Deborah) Reich; his best and only daughter, Bridget (James) Phillips; and the most loving, talented and intelligent grandchildren in the world: Andrew (fiancée Aubrey) and Karli Reich, David, Jeffrey, Elizabeth and Sarah Phillips. Dick was preceded in death by his devoted soul mate and wife of 50 years, Samilda (nee Stump) Reich. After proudly serving his country as a naval corpsman during WWII aboard the USS North Carolina, Dick graduated from West Virginia University and earned his Masters in Library Science from Case Western Reserve. Throughout his career as a professional librarian, Dick held numerous administrative positions throughout the southern United States, eventually settling in Gary, Indiana and retiring from Indiana University Northwest as head librarian. He and his late wife, Samilda, enjoyed theatre, traveling and gardening. Dick was a devoted husband, loving father and doting grandfather. His kindness towards his family and friends was inspiring. He will be greatly missed. As per his wishes, he will be cremated, and there will be no funeral service. A celebration of his life will be held at his home this summer. Love you Richard. Cremation will take place with Rees Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Winfield Chapel, 219-661-2600.
