Richard T. Smith

Richard "Smitty" T. Smith, age 94, of Hobart, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso.  He was born in Delphi, Indiana on January 17, 1924 to the late Frederick C. and Nora P. (nee Disinger) Smith.  He was a member of the Michigan Avenue United Methodist Church in Hobart.  He volunteered as a fireman for the Hobart Fire Department from 1955-1975 and worked as a truck driver for Teamsters, Local 142.  Richard loved classic cars and Corvettes.  He will be remembered as a generous father, grandfather, neighbor and friend to many.

Richard is survived by son, Charles "Chuck" (Jean) Smith; grandchildren, Michael (Norma) Smith, Megan (John) Simmons; great grandchildren, Alexis, Carli, Ian, Gracie; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Madge (nee Doctor) Smith; daughter, Patricia Vendl; sisters, Louise Gibbons, Helen Ludberg, Virginia Thoma; and his parents.

A memorial service for Richard will take place Friday, June 8, 2018 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Mike Cover officiating at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd.
