Rigoberto Gallegos, age 80 of Portage passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2026. He was born on August 29, 1946, in Tanhuato, Michoacan in Mexico. He retired from U.S. Steel after 33 years where he had worked as a Crane Operator. Rigoberto was a member of the United Steelworkers Union. He loved reading and doing word search puzzles.

He is survived by four children, Sylvia (Arthur) Diaz; Jaime Gallegos; Sandra (Jared Underhill) Gallegos; Patricia (Joshua) Sharwarko; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and a sister and 4 brothers.

He was preceded in death by his son, Martin Gallegos, one sister, Luz Maria, and two brothers, Adolfo and Sergio Gallegos.

A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 3200 E. 91st St., Chicago, IL 60617.
