Robert J. Keith, age 85 of Hobart passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Sterling House in Portage. Robert was born on March 15, 1928 in Cottondale, Alabama. He worked at U.S. Steel retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Local 1014. Robert had been a Hobart resident for 38 years until retiring and returning to his home state of Alabama in 1991. He loved horse racing, gambling, playing pool, fishing, playing dominoes, dancing, and whittling wood.
He is survived by 4 children, Betty (Robert) Lambert of Chesterton, IN; Mike Keith of Patterson, CA; Theresa (Charles) Kietzman of Hobart, IN; Troy Keith of Empire, AL; 8 grandchildren, Bryon, Erin, Amie, Allison, Renae, Joshua, Erica, and Mallory, and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Lee Kinard, his wife of 52 years, Myrle Keith, and 1 brother, James Miller.
Local visitation is Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart.
There will be a visitation on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Dogwood Chapel, 200 Fifth Street NE, Aliceville, Alabama. Funeral services are Monday, September 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Dogwood Chapel. Burial will be at the Oak Grove-Franconia Cemetery in Aliceville, Alabama.
