Robert "Bob" L. Burns, age 84, of Hobart, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014. He was born on April 8, 1930 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to the late Theodore and Violet Burns. On September 24, 1950 Bob married the love of his life, Wilma Farmer in Joplin, Missouri. They came to Hobart in 1981 where Bob worked as an Editor for the Merrillville Herald, the Post Tribune and the Hobart Gazette. He was active with the Hobart and Merrillville Chambers of Commerce. Bob served as pastor for the Lighthouse Temple in Lake Station for five years and The United Pentecostal Church in Des Plaines, Illinois for fifteen years.
He is survived by his sons, David Burns, Paul Burns and Ronald (Shelley) Burns; daughter, Janice Lazcano; brother, Stephen (Alice) Burns; sister, Kathi O'Connell; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Burns; parents, Theodore and Violet Burns; brothers, Darrell Burns, Thomas Burns, Timothy Burns and Daniel Burns; sister, Patricia Sorko-Ram.
A memorial service will take place 5:00 pm Friday, September 5, 2014 at First Church, 939 S. Wisconsin, Hobart. A fellowship meal will follow at the church hall. He will be laid to rest at Kirk Cemetery in Seneca, Missouri in private graveside services. For more information, please call (219) 942-2109.
