Obituary

In Loving Memory Husband & Father:

Robert Joseph Spielmann

Age 88, of Crown Point, Indiana, passed gently & naturally in his home with close friends & his son by his side.

(Due to corona virus worldwide Eileen & John from Long Island, N.Y. could not attend his last few days but were there in loving & cherished spirits)

Robert was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 25, 1932 the son of the late Otto J. & Ann (Bleichner) Spielmann.

Robert & many of his lifelong classmates, of St. Benedicts Catholic Grammar School including Sister Stella on May 12 th , 1940 shared their first communion together. Tony Mueller & Peter Klein, late Ernie Held, late Chuck Gottmann & many others have hung out throughout their entire lives enjoying the family life, fishing, traveling & spending special moments at every holiday season gathering.

Robert attended Lane Technical High School in Chicago prior to enlisting the United States Army. Corporal Robert Spielmann served in the Korean War 1952 through 1954 as a radio operator in Fukora Japan & gladly served in the reserves through 1960 at Fort Sheridan in Illinois, Honorable discharged by his Postmaster Sargent M. Gugliotta, 2 nd LT WAC.

In October 1958 he married his beloved wife of 60 years, predeceased Kathleen Marie Masterson (February 10 th , 2019). Robert & Kathleen had one son, Greg & one daughter Eileen.

Robert began work at the Hartford Insurance Company in Chicago after being in the military service. He was employed as a Printer running large commercial presses pushing paper. Later he went to The Prudential Insurance Company in downtown Chicago where he worked in the mail room & after many successful positions advanced. Robert personally engaged in self growth with evening college education after long hours at work & this livelihood grew to an accomplished Facility Design Planner using his CAD operation skills & becoming Building Management overseeing many facilities in three states finally retiring in 1982. He continued working at CNA Insurance in Chicago, and then NIPSCO in Merrillville Indiana, and even later with Sacco Industries at a millwork company developing plans for shop drawings for the estimates for major projects up to 400 rooms.

Robert was an accomplished artist since childhood. His art and wood crafting are recognized by many of his family, friends, colleagues since 1967 through 2020.

Roberts wonderful travels around the globe he nurtured great memories. Over the last six years of Kathleen & Roberts lives, they have enjoyed sharing many outings with their caregivers, friends & son Greg. Robert has enjoyed sharing his memories with friends, caregivers, nurses, & medical staff always bringing a smile. And singing & teaching words in German & Japanese.
