Robert M. Summers, age 83 of Portage passed away Monday, May 30, 2011. He was born on December 26, 1927 to the late Roland and Emma Summers. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea. Robert worked for EJ and E Railroad and Grand Trunk Railroad retiring in 1988. He was a former Griffith and Roselawn resident. He served as Treasurer and Chaplain at the Roselawn American Legion and was a past Commander at the Griffith American Legion.

He is survived by 1 son, Martin (Lee Ann) Summers of Portage, IN; 2 daughters, Tara (Phillip) Gordon of Hobart, IN; Tana Summers of Valparasio, IN; 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, special family friend and good buddy, Deborah Glass.

Memorial donations in Robert's honor may be made to Asera Care Hospice, 332 W. U.S. Hwy 30, Valparaiso, IN 46385.

Funeral services are Friday, June 3, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. Burial will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois at 2 p.m..
