Robert Gordon Thorne, age 89 a lifetime resident of Lake Station, passed away on Sunday. November 16, 2014. Robert was a self-employed contractor. He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Portage. Robert was very involved in the Sunday Night Dance Club and enjoyed his weekly ballroom dancing. Robert enjoyed gardening and he won the 75 year old Division in the Brickyard Run. Robert served his country in the US Navy. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Doris; 3 sons, Charles Thorne of Hana Maui, HI, Thomas (Amy) Thorne of Denver, NC and Michael Thorne of Salt Lake City, UT; 1 daughter, Cynthia Travis of Columbus, IN; 7 grandchildren, Michelle, Nina Thorne, Erik, Justin, Erika, Amy, Kathryn, Logan; 6 great grandchildren Sawyer, Aaliyah, Ni'Qiyaa, Lacharso, Jarvis, and Cobra; stepchildren, Barb, Richard, Debra, Brian, Cheryl, Terri, Tim, John, Steve and Chris and many nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy, daughter, Roberta Strenchak, grandson, Ryan Travis sister, Marian Kurzdorfer and stepson, Greg. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 22, 2014, 11:00am at Evangelical Covenant Church, 5051 Central Avenue, Portage with Rev. Michaile Broadnax officiating. Visitation will be at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage on Friday, November 21, 2014 from 4:00-8:00pm and Saturday, November 22, 2014 from 10:00-11:00am at the Evangelical Covenant Church.
