Robert William "Bob" Shoemaker, age 75 of Lake Station passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011. He was born on February 12, 1935 in Gary, Indiana. He was a lifetime Lake Station resident and graduated from Edison High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Bob retired from Costas where he worked for 35 years as a Meat Cutter. He also worked for the School City of Hobart for 11 years as a bus driver. He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Post 100, M.L. McClelland Masonic Lodge #357, and the Meat Cutters Local Union. Bob enjoyed Bowling, Golf and he was an avid Cubs fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 56 years, Nancee Shoemaker (nee Martin) of Lake Station, IN; 2 daughters, Brenda (Don) Ginter of Lake Station, IN; Laura (Dennis) Vizena of Lake Station, IN; 3 grandsons, Brian Ginter, Dale (Cassie) Ginter and Bobby Vizena, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alpha and Helen (Schubert) Shoemaker, and 2 sons, Bobby and Al Shoemaker.
Memorial contributions are preferred to VNA Hospice of Porter County.
Funeral services are Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel, 3781 Central Ave., Lake Station with Rev. Roger Hartzler officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage. Visitation is Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. American Legion service at Rees Funeral Home, Brady Chapel.
