ROGER D. SMITH, Sr., age 53, of Gary, passed away July 4, 2015 at Saint Mary Medical Center. He was born on September 22, 1961 in Pikeville, KY. Roger was very athletic and enjoyed playing hockey in several leagues as well as flag football. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hezekiah D. and Polly Smith.
Roger is survived by his son, Roger D. (Jaleesa Sumbry) Smith, Jr.; daughter, Angela Smith; 3 grandchildren, D'Angelo Smith, Ayanna Shivers, and Jeremiah Smith; brothers, Tommy (Diana) Thompson, Bobby (Christina) Thompson, Donny (Isabelle) Smith, Larry Smith, Kenneth (Sue) Smith, Danny (Lena) Smith, David (Phyllis) Smith, Ricky (Cherise) Smith, Tommy Thompson, Jr., and Fred Langston; sisters, Geraldine Neilson, Linda Smith, Vannetta May, Kathy Henke, and Polly McDougal; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Roger will be Saturday, July 11, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Noon at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage.
