Roger Lee Sullivan

Roger L. Sullivan, age 81, of Hobart, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. Roger was born in Goreville, IL on September 19, 1935 to the late Edgar Lewis and Wilma (nee Fisher) Sullivan. He was one of 14 brothers and sisters. He proudly served in the United States Army. He retired from US Steel after 33 years. He then worked for Sears doing small engine repairs, but Roger was a farmer at heart. He enjoyed watching things grow, gardening, birds, wood carving, country line dancing and traveling. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Roger will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, of 58 years, Lela Ann (nee Nelson) Sullivan; sons, Shawn, Gordon (Shelia), Doug (Christie); daughter, Shari (Greg) Hall, brother, Donald; sister, Sussie (Lehman) Weaver; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua.

A funeral service for Roger will take place Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W Old Ridge Rd Hobart, IN 46342 with Pastor Don Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Call 219-942-2109 for more information.
