Romualdo "Ray" Gonzalez, age 87, a long-time resident of Gary passed away Tuesday February 23, 2016 at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. He was born December 23, 1928 in East Chicago, Indiana to the late Francisco and Angelina (Ortiz) Gonzalez. Romualdo retired as a supervisor at Inland Steel in 1989. Mr. Gonzalez was a life-long member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and had been attending Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church recently. He was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society.

Romualdo is survived by his five children R. Louie (Martha) Gonzalez of Munster, Patty (Ricardo) Quiroga of Pearland, TX, Rick (Janet) Gonzalez of Machesny Park, IL, Teresa (Rueben) Pedroza of Lake Station and Anita (Steve) Rogers of Noblesville; his son-in-law John Avila; twelve grandchildren P.J. (Jen) Pedroza, Victor (Jen) Pedroza, Erica (Seth) Pedroza, Richard Quiroga, Christina Quiroga, Danielle Quiroga, Michael Gonzalez, Matthew Gonzalez, Melissa Avila, John Avila Jr., Ben Rogers and Olivia Rogers; three great grandchildren Xavier, Gabriel and Avery Elizabeth; two sisters Petra Salazar and Enriqueta Gonzalez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice, parents, daughter Elizabeth Avila, and two sisters Maria de la Luz and Beatriz Cantu.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Saturday February 27, 2016 at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church 2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage, Indiana 46368 with Rev. Andrew J. Corona officiating. Burial will be in Calumet Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday February 26, 2016 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm with a 4:00 pm Prayer Service at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN 46342 and Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the Church.

Memorial gifts are preferred to the St. Mary Auxiliary Scholarship Fund in lieu of flowers.
