Ronald J. "Ron" Szwedo, age 75, of Hobart, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017. He was born on January 2, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to the late John and Mildred Szwedo. Ron graduated in 1960 from Bishop Noll Institute. He served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. During his service, he was especially proud of the time he spent working at the Pentagon. He was an active member of the American Legion Post# 454 in New Chicago. Ron retired after 40 years of continuous service with United States Steel Gary Works. He was a member of United Steelworkers Union Local# 2695. He was a Chicago White Sox fan and loved music. On October 8, 1966, he married the love of his life, Karen (nee Tenorio) Szwedo, who survives.
He is also survived by his daughters, Christine (John) Page of Knox, Indiana, Renee (Jim) Antczak of Hobart, Indiana and Michelle Szwedo of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Kyle Page, Lauren Page, Connor Antczak, Avery Antczak; sister, Darlene (Tom) Marovich.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mildred Szwedo; brother, Fred Szwedo; sister, Cassie Hoobyar.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Mass of Christian Burial for Ron will take place Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 10:00 am at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 3530 Illinois Street, Hobart, IN 46342 beginning with prayers at the funeral home at 9:30 am.
