Ruby J. Flanigan, age 94 of Portage formerly of Hobart passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014. She was born on August 6, 1919 in Gary, Indiana to the late Harold and Hazel Hamilton.   She graduated from Horace Mann in 1937. Ruby was a longtime member of the 1 ^st Christian Church of Hobart. She enjoyed sewing and reading. Ruby was a strong and caring woman who was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

She is survived by 5 children, Marjorie (Robert) Millus of Hebron, IN; Raymond (Janice) Flanigan of DeMotte, IN; Allen (Gwen) Flanigan of Hobart, IN; Eileen (Michael)Carbine of Valparaiso, IN; Glenn (Kimberly) Flanigan of Hebron, IN; brother, Gordon B. Hamilton of Chesterton, IN; sister, Jeannette Sichtermann, of Hobart, IN; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ralph O. Flanigan, daughter, Jayne (Fred) Mioduski, 4 brothers, Richard, William, Harold and Joseph Hamilton, and sister, Alice Rosebery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Ruby's honor may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association of Porter County, 2401 Valley Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383.

Funeral services are Monday, March 17, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Pastor Steve Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
