R. Kathleen Hostettler Nelson, age 76, went home to meet her maker on Saturday, June 3,2017. Kathleen was born on March 25, 1941 in Gary, Indiana to the late Lowell and Ruth (nee VanHouten) Hostettler. Kathleen graduated from Portage High School. She was employed at NIPSCO, BuyLow, Chesterton State Bank, and retired from Midwest Carpenters and Millwrights Federal Credit Union. Kathleen played the organ for over 40 years at the 1st Nazarene Church and the Presbyterian Church in Portage. She was a member of Real Life Community Church. Kathleen is survived by her husband, Donald G. Nelson, 2 sons, Donald (Dana) Nelson and Michael Nelson; 5 grandchildren, Chasity Weber, Michael, Avery, Kaylyn, Matteson Nelson; 4 brothers, Lowell K. (Marlene), James (Susan), Dean (Teresa), and Dennis Hostettler; many nieces, nephews and other loving family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Ruth Hostettler. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. Burial will follow at McCool Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 2:00-8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.
