Rudolph A. "Rudy" Carol, age 95, of Sarasota, Florida passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Doctors Hospital of Sarasota. Rudy was born August 7, 1915, in Gary, Indiana, and was a former longtime Gary resident. He graduated from Lew Wallace High School in Glen Park and attended Purdue University and Illinois Institute of Technology. Rudy was a former member of Glen Park Izaak Walton League and sponsor of Junior Izaak Walton League. He was a former member of the Hobart Elks Lodge and Loyal Order of the Moose. Rudy retired from the Engineering Department of Bethlehem Steel in Burns Harbor after 20 years of service and was a former member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Hobart. Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Irene Carol, son, Dennis (Patricia) Carol of Sun Prairie, WI; 2 daughters, Kathleen Carol of Sarasota, FL, and Eileen Carol, Ph.D. of Santa Rosa, CA; 5 grandchildren: David Dombrowski of Tacoma, WA; Brian Dombrowski (Robyn) of Sarasota, FL; Jodi Darren of Miami, FL; Christine Shaklik (Michael) of Vienna, VA; and Molly White (Ric Munoz) of Santa Monica, CA; 6 great grandchildren: Ross & Dara Dombrowski, Taylor & Ryan Shaklik, and Daniela & Bobby Munoz; and nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011, beginning with 10:00 a.m. prayers at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, and then proceeding to St. Bridget Catholic Church for the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dominic V. Bertino celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary.
