Ruth A. Jarvis, age 73, of Portage, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 28, 2016 after a long chronic illness. She was born on February 3, 1943 in Greenville, Kentucky to Hubert and Ruth Etta Wilkins. Ruth graduated from Greenville High School in 1961. After High School, she attended Beauty School. On December 24, 1960 she married the love of her life, Marvin R. Jarvis. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, crafting, playing piano, reading the Bible and watching televangelists. She will always be remembered by those who love her as a dedicated mother, grandmother and friend who doted on her family. She constantly prayed for her loved ones and always wanted the best for them. Her family loved her cooking.

Ruth is survived by her son, Marvin 'Dewayne' (Leanne) Jarvis of Portage; daughter, Monica A. (Andrew) Hanson of Raymond, Maine; grandchildren, Cody Jarvis, Danielle A. Hanson, Patrick A. (Ally) Hanson, William Hanson; step grandchildren, Kaili, Stephanie and Jacob Melendez and Alex Unger; brother, Hubert Lynn Wilkins; sister, Paulette Bednarik.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Ruth Etta Wilkins; husband, Marvin R. Jarvis; sister, Anna Lois Wilkins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ruth's name may be made to the VNA Foundation, 2401 Valley Drive, Valparaiso, Indiana 46383.

A memorial visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Liberty Bible Church, Fireside Room, 824 North Calumet Ave., Chesterton, IN. Memorial service will be held at the church Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 12:00 pm. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage.
