SABINA "SOPHIE" MARAVILLA, age 89, of Hobart, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida. Sabina was a Hobart resident for the past 6 years and a former longtime Lansing, Illinois resident. Sophie was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the East Chicago Washington Alumni Association. She was also a member of the Romanian American Youth Society and the Indiana Harbor Old Timers Club.
Sophie is survived by her husband, Fred, 5 children: Marguerite "Linda" (Jerry) Mauk of Winter Haven, FL, Don (Susie) Maravilla of Dyer, Rod (Ellen) Maravilla of Hobart, Debbie (Jay) Berry of Davie, FL and Sandra (Alberto) Mesa of Chicago, IL, 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Helen Moga-Payne of Houston, TX and nieces & nephews. Her grandson, Douglas Pineda, preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers donations are preferred to St. Bridget Church, Nativity of Our Savior Church or the Red Cross for Japanese Relief.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011 beginning with 9:30 am prayers at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, and then proceeding to St. Bridget Catholic Church for the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am with Rev. Andrew Corona officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville, Indiana.
