Salome Alaniz-Medina (nee Longoria), age 89, of Portage, Indiana passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 22, 1934, in Riviera, Texas to the late Valentin and Filomena (nee Vela) Longoria.

She worked as head of the greenhouse at Zandstra's Farm for many years. Salome had a passion for gardening and cooking for her family. She was a wonderful, hardworking homemaker who always cared for her family.  Salome will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and aunt.

Salome is survived by her sons, Joe Medina, Arnold (Rose) Alaniz, Rene (Donna) Alaniz, Patrick (Angie) Alaniz; her daughters, Ana Madrigal, Maria (Raul) Martinez, Filomena (Leroy) Vega; her brother, Ernesto Longoria; her sister, Filomena (Luis) Muniz; 32 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded by her husband, Refugio Alaniz-Medina; her sons, David Alaniz, Joel Medina, Antonio Alaniz; her granddaughter, Lisa Medina; her great-granddaughter, Olivia Medina; her parents, Valentin and Filomena Longoria; her brothers, Valentin Jr Longoria, Manuel Longoria, Donato Longoria; sisters, Tomasita Arguijo, Isabel Gutierrez-Vasquez, Beatriz DeLaRosa, Irene Garcia.
