Salvador Magallanes

Salvador Magallanes Sr., age 77, of Portage, Indiana passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He was born April 11, 1944, in Los Reales, Momax, Zacatecas, Mexico to the late Roman and late Leonor (Marquez) Magallanes. He married the love of his life Maria Esther on February 26, 1969 and spent 52 wonderful years until her recent passing on August 22, 2021. Salvador was a retired union butcher from Vienna Beef. He loved working in his garden, was a great handyman and helped his children with many home projects. He loved his family and will be deeply missed. He will now be able to continue his daily coffee dates in heaven with his beloved wife.

Salvador Magallanes Sr., loving father of Enrique (Patricia) Magallanes, Elida (Ismael) Haro, and Salvador (Luz Maria) Magallanes Jr., all of Portage, Indiana. Devoted grandfather of Crystal Gabrielle Magallanes, Lisette Araceli Magallanes, Marco Alexander Magallanes, Jessica Haro, Marco Antonio Haro, Salvador Magallanes III, Alyssa Roxanne Magallanes, and Liliana Magallanes.  Dearest brother of Elodia, Eleno, Cruz, Pedro, Adela, Baudelio, Felipe, Celia, and Martha. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; and faithful companion of his loving dog Coco.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm Monday, January 3, 2022, at Rees Funeral Home­ Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana 46368. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 4, 2022, beginning with 10:15 am prayers at the Funeral Home and then processing to St. Francis-Xavier Catholic Church, 2447 Putnam Street, Lake Station, Indiana 46405 for an 11:00 am Mass with Rev. Jaime Perea officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, Illinois 60409.           .
