Sandra "Sandie" Garcia Chavez

Sandra "Sandie" Garcia Chavez, age 53, of Portage passed away Tuesday April 24, 2018 at St Mary Medical Center in Hobart.  Sandra was born November 11, 1964 in East Chicago, Indiana to the late Manlio and Sarah (Cruz) Garcia.  Sandie was a homemaker and mother.  She loved playing cards and board games with her family.  Sandie was the ultimate hostess, she loved hosting family gatherings.

Sandra is survived by her best friend and devoted companion, George Chavez; her four adoring children, Courtney, Alexis, Nicholas and Madison; the light of her world, her granddaughter, Ophelia Rose; ten brothers and sisters, Jaime, Leo, Richard, Celeste, Marina, Olga, Grace, Mary, RosaLee and Connie; many nieces and nephews; extended family and dear friends.

Sandie was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Saturday April 28, 2018 at Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church, 356 W 700 N Valparaiso, IN 46385 with Rev. Paul Quanz officiating.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Friday April 27, 2018 at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave. Portage, Indiana 46368 and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church.
