Sandra M. Scheeringa,
(nee Phillips), age 71 of Hobart, passed away Monday, November 28, 2011 at home with her loving husband Sidney by her side. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dana, parents George and Mildred Phillips, brother David and sister Lucy. She is survived by her husband, Sidney, to whom she had been married to for 52 years; her sons, Daniel (Sara) Scheeringa of Star Prairie, WI and David (Sheryl) Scheeringa of Hobart, IN; daughter, Alissa Antonelli of Anderson, IN; 5 grandchildren, Rachael Oswald, Broc Antonelli, Sallie and Jakob Scheeringa and Sandra's special love Haley; 2 great grandchildren, Levi Antonelli and Devlin Haynes. She is also survived by her neighbor who has been a very special friend, Karen Stavitzke and longtime friends Jim and Elaine Penrod.
Sandra was born in Detroit on February 10, 1940. She was raised in Highland and was a 1958 Griffith High School graduate. She had lived in Hobart for over 50 years. She loved a good sense of humor and appreciated intellect. Not only did she love to read, but Jeopardy answers came easy to her. She also loved the sights of Lake Michigan and it's beautiful shoreline. Sandra was co owner of Sid's Produce and also worked for Scheeringa Farms, Chase St. Produce, T & J Farms and Bernaccis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the family.
A funeral service will be on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, Indiana with Pastor Frederic Lams officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
