Sara Diaz Mendez

Sara Diaz Mendez, age 91, passed away peacefully  in her sleep Sunday, June 28, 2020. She was born on October 3, 1928 in Gurabo, Puerto Rico to the late Martin Diaz and Dionisia Mendez-Goytia. Sara was a member of Iglesia de Mamey  de Puerto Rico , she also worshiped at Iglesia Bautista de Lake Station. She will always be remembered as a dedicated mother who would do anything for her children.

She is survived by her sons, Jacob (Catherine) Mendez Jr., Hector (Annette) Mendez, Anthony A. Mendez-Diaz; daughter, Elisabet Mendez; grandchildren, Carli, Royce, Derrick, Wesley, Stephanie, Jeanette, Erica, Jacob Omar, Skai, Jayden and Alysa; 6 great grandchildren; and one sister, Isabel Buxo.

Sara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jacob Mendez Alicea; and several brothers and sisters.

A funeral service for Sara will take place Friday, July 3, 2020 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 2, 2020 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:00 pm at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
