Obituary

Sarah E. Cooper (Beatty), 94, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2018 at Chesterton Manor, her home of four and a half years. Born in Lewis County, TN to Dora and Grover Beatty, August 2, 1924. She was a Gary/ Portage area resident for 70 years. She and Edward married January 26, 1946, after Edward returned from duty in World War II. In 1948, they moved to Northwest Indiana and raised their 4 children in Gary. Sarah had many talents as seamstress, homemaker and retail clerk at Montgomery Ward in the Village Shopping Center. Most of all she loved the Lord with all of her heart and never wavered in her Christian faith. She was a pillar of strength at her church. She was known for her hospitality, her delicious meals and her scrumptious cakes. Sarah was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a prayer warrior and would never hesitate to help anyone. Sarah entered into a new life at the age of 89 after she had a debilitating stroke. She went to live at Chesterton Manor and made many friends with the residents and staff.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; son, Conway; grandson, Danny Kaletta; step-grandson, Adam Ayala; brothers Roy and Ray Beatty and many in-laws.

She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Gloria (John) Chirila of Burns Harbor, Brenda (Bill) Storey of Valparaiso, Robin (Ralph) Estes of Valparaiso; daughter-in-law, Frances (Ron) Winiarczyk of Clermont, Florida;  11 grandchildren, Melissa (Brian) Gilliam, Karissa (Duane) Sweeney, Holly Duffey, Gregory (Meghan Johnston) Kaletta, Jason Chirila, Brooke (Jason) Berry, William  Joseph (Natalie) Storey, Jonathan (Jessica) Storey, Jeremy (Alison) Storey, Edward and Lindsay (Kevin Arney) Estes; 21 great grandchildren, Audrey, Zachary, Tyler, Jordan, Caden, Christina and  Sebastian Gilliam, Nicholas, Thomas and Braden Sweeney, London Duffey, Emmaly Holtzman, Abby and Ashley Kaletta, Calli Berry, Gwen Storey, Kevin and Camden Ayala, Alexis Storey, Wyatt and Levi Storey; sister, Sue Crotzer of Nashville, TN; sister-in-law, Barbara Cooper of Cookeville, TN; numerous loving nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Dr. Devine and the staff and residents of Chesterton Manor who nurtured her with their friendship and loving care.

Friends may call Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage.

A funeral service for Sarah will take place Friday, November 16, 2018 at 10:00 am at Pentecostals of Southlake, 1640 West 93 rd Ave, Merrillville with Pastor Robert Stroup and assistant Pastor Randy Scott officiating with viewing at the church from 9:00 am until 10:00 am on Friday.
