Scott M. Collins, Jr. "SJ", age 2, of Valparaiso, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at Porter Regional Hospital. SJ came into this world a fighter. He was born on July 18, 2013 weighing a mere 3 lbs. 10 oz. Although doctors said he wouldn't survive, God had other plans. Every day his family got to spend with him was truly a precious gift. He was a big fan of Superman and Star Wars. Above all, SJ's favorite television show was the Golden Girls and he was planning to be Sophia for Halloween. He was a happy child, who always had rockstar hair. His family will remember him for his infectious laugh.
He is survived by his parents, Scott and Jaclynn Collins of Valparaiso; sister and best friend, Laila Collins; grandparents, Joyce Collins, Manuel Chagoya and Gayle Sweitzer; aunts and uncles, Rolan (Tammy) Collins, Billy Carpenter, Teresa (Jerome) Weiler, Nicole (Matthew) Ricci, Vicenta (Richard) Jaeger; numerous cousins and other loving family members.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Gabrielle Collins; uncles, Jeff, Tony and Phillip Collins; grandfather, Rolan Collins; great grandparents, Glenn and Erma Sweitzer, Sterling and Madolin Fry, Ira "Dick" and Wynona Collins, Manuel and Frances Chagoya.
A funeral service for SJ will take place Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage with Rev. Frank Torres officiating. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will be held Friday, April 8, 2016 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. For more information, please call (219) 762-3013.
