Selma E. Bednar

Selma E. Bednar, age 96, a resident of Crown Point and Chicago passed away, Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Crown Point Christian Village in Crown Point. Selma was born on November 16, 1918 in Sandstone, MN the daughter of the late Emil and Elizabeth (nee West) Sohlo. She worked as a School Teacher for Sandstone School District. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Crown Point. Selma will be remembered as a loving, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
She is survived by her five children, Gary (Diane) Bednar of Mokena, IL, John (Melinda) Bednar of Lebanon, TN, Cheryl (Ron) Sandefur of Salem, SC, Dennis (Joan) Bednar of St. Charles. IL and James (Deborah) Bednar of Crown Point; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; son-in-law, Donald Buhmann of Arizona; sister-in-law, Elaine Sohlo of Maplewood, MN and many other loving family members and friends.
Selma was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Bednar; parents; daughter, Mary Kay Buhmann; four brothers, Sylvester, Alfred, Leslie and Clifford; six sisters, Signe, Senia, Sylvia, Saima, Norma and Lempi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, September 11, 2015 directly at Holy Spirit Catholic Church7667 East 109th Ave. Crown Point, Indiana 46307 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Thomas E. Mischler officiating. Selma will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in St.Paul, MN. Visitation will be Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Winfield Chapel, 10909 Randolph St. Winfield/Crown Point, Indiana 46307.
