Selma H. Creason

Selma H. Creason (nee Zylka), age 88 of Portage passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017. She was born on August 3, 1928 in Duluth, MN to the late Michael and Monica Zylka. She was a longtime area resident and a member of the American Legion Post 260 Ladies Auxiliary. Selma loved movie night and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by six sons, Stanley Hicks of Valparaiso, IN; Michael (Crissy) Hicks of LaPorte, IN; Charles (Darlene) Hicks of Portage, IN; Robert (Lori) Hicks of Portage, IN; Reggie Creason of Portage, IN; Jason Creason of Portage, IN; four daughters, Lucille (Duane) Sternberg of Portage, IN; Charlotte "Cookie" (Ismael) Alicea of Valparaiso, IN; Monica Hicks of Portage, IN; Natalie Kent of ME; one sister, Lucille F. Hicks of Portage, IN; one stepson, David (Linda) Creason, one step-daughter, Sandra (Danny) Potts of Valparaiso, IN; one stepson-in-law, Joe Sabuda of Valparaiso, IN; many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon C. Creason, three brothers, Barney, Stanley, and Benny Zylka, and one step-daughter, Diane Sabuda.
Funeral services are Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage with Bishop Dale P. Combs officiating. Cremation will follow with Rees Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Visitation is Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, Portage.
