Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Sharon, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, sister and aunt in Crown Point, Indiana at the age of 73.

She will be sadly missed by her husband Dennis of 52 years, her daughter Dr. Christine (Dr. Eugenio) Capitano DC, her grandsons Luca and Teo Capitano, her siblings, Debbie (Eddie) Skoda and John (Vicki) Kolacinski Her nephews and nieces, Michael and Tony Skoda, Brad (Mercedes) Kolacinski and Brandi Lane.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 23, 1946 to the late John and Frances (nee Allie) Kolacinski. After graduating from Bremen High School in 1964, she went to work for the Illinois Central Railroad as a keypunch operator and was there for 7 years. She met Dennis at the Oak Forest Bowling Alley after he was discharged from the Army in the summer of 1966 . They married in June 1967 and had their daughter in 1971. Sharon was a talented singer and enjoyed performing in small theatre productions in the early 1970's. In 1984 they moved from Midlothian, IL to Oak Forest, IL literally 2 blocks from where they met. She was a homemaker and always welcomed all of their daughter's friends with open arms. In the late 1980's, she went to back to school to get her cosmetology license and befriended so many seniors over the years doing their hair in her basement shop, or if they were too frail to come, she would be sure to go to their homes and visit and spread some cheer. Sharon loved being an aunt to her three nephews and her niece. They were her pride and joy for many years. She also helped care for her parents when her dad fell ill in 1989 and then after he passed, she saw her mom nearly every day for the next 10 years, going to California with her to visit her brother John and family, running errands for her, planting gardens and going to doctor appointments. In 2000 and 2002 she became a grandma to two very busy little boys. Once Dennis retired, they took many trips to Winnipeg to spend weeks at a time with their daughter and the family. They relocated from Oak Forest, IL to Crown Point, Indiana 2007 to live next door to her loving sister Debbie and her family and this made for wonderful memories of her nephews and grandsons growing up to be very close. As the years went on and her health and sight declined, our visits to Indiana replaced their visits to Winnipeg. Her amazing husband Dennis stood by her daily, taking care of her exactly as she needed and wanted, always reminding us that "She took care of me for 40 plus years now it's my turn to take care of her." They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a beautiful celebration just two summers ago. In April 2019, she survived a massive heart attack and the silver lining in that situation was that their Chrissy came home and stayed with them for 2 months. It was a time that they will always cherish.

We miss you deeply and you will forever be in our hearts and thoughts.

Sharon was cremated after a final farewell from her husband and sister, as the Corona virus has kept Christine and family in Canada for now. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date as social distancing and quarantines are lifted for the safety of all. Cremation has been entrusted to Rees Funeral Homes, Winfield Chapel.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at reesfuneralhomes.com .

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions in Sharon's memory may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
