Sharon Lee Fisher, age 65, of Hobart passed away Thursday January 19, 2017 at St Mary Medical Center. Sharon was born August 28, 1951 in Gary, Indiana to Leo and Patricia (Mitchell) Hinkle. She graduated from Grace College, where she earned her bachelor's degree. Sharon went on to Valparaiso University where she earned her Master's Degree in education. She had a career as a teacher and retired from the River Forest Community School Corporation after many years of service. She was awarded the Teacher of the Year. Sharon was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of South Haven and a former member of Central Baptist Church where she served as Choir Director, Children's Choir Director (Joshua Generation), Music Committee Director, Sunday School Teacher. She was also a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association.
Sharon is survived by her two sons, Nathan (Rendy) Fisher of Portage and Matthew (Sophia) Fisher of Liberty, MO; her father, Leo Hinkle of Valparaiso; nine grandchildren, Troy, Theo, Titus, Tobin, Theia, Andrew, Emily, Nathan and Grace; her great granddaughter, Olivia; one sister Diane (Allan) Frey of Lima, Peru; and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Fisher.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday January 25, 2017 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 760 N. McCool Road, Valparaiso, IN 46385 with Rev. John C. Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery Valparaiso, Indiana. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday January 24, 2017 at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel 5341 Central Ave. Portage, IN 46368.
Memorial gifts are preferred to the Emmanuel Baptist Music Ministry in lieu of flowers.
