Sheila Joy Sweeney

Sheila Joy Sweeney, age 66 a longtime Portage resident passed away Monday, August 24, 2026. She was born on May 15, 1960, in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Floyd Carr and Lucille England. She graduated from River Forest High School. Sheila retired from St. Mary Medical Center where she had worked as an RN. Sheila loved going to Disney World and also loved Sci-Fi.

She is survived by her son, Noah (Amber Moreau) Martin of Lake Station, IN; one brother, William Carr of Westville, IN; grandchildren, Alexus, Amber, Nathaniel and Theo Martin and Paige Moreau.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Sweeney, and one son Justin Durk.

Funeral services are Sunday, August 30, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. Visitation is Sunday just prior to the service from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, Portage. (219) 762-3013. Cremation will follow services with burial of cremains at McCool Cemetery at a later date.
