Sherry Yvonne Podenski, age 72, of Lake Station passed away in her home Thursday May 18, 2023. Sherry was born May 19, 1950, in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Charles O. and Marjie (Howard) Merritt. She was a retired healthcare worker that worked for several facilities in the area. Sherry enjoyed spending time with her family and reading romance novels.

She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-two years, Herbert Podenski, Jr.; her two children, Herbert (Lisa) Podenski, III of Lake Station and Jeanine (Irfan) Ahmed of Schererville; five grandchildren, Britney (Richard) Haywood, Amber (Daniel) Lenzo, Matthew (Makayla) Podenski, Ona Ahmed, and Aleena Ahmed; six great grandchildren; Alivia, Toby, Kaden, Quinn, Braelynn, and Elijah; one sister, Kimberly Merritt; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Parents; a grandson, Herbert Podenski, IV; two brothers, Jerry Merritt and Roger Merritt; a sister-in-law, Antonia; her mother-in-law Dolores and father-in-law Herbert, Sr.

Sherry requested to be cremated with no attended services. The family is planning Celebration of her life at a future date.

Rees Funeral Home 600 W. Old Ridge Road was entrusted with her services.
