Obituary

Sheryl Kaye Higgins-Brewer, age 68 of Lake Station, Lake County, Indiana, was called home by the Lord on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 1:34 PM with her loving family at her side.

Sheryl was born on September 14, 1952 in The Jasper Clinic, Jasper, Marion County, Tennessee. She was a Lake Station resident for the past 55 years, where she stated she met the love of her life, and married Gary Ruble Brewer Sr. on the 21 st of September 1968 on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Huber Boulevard in New Chicago, Lake County, Indiana, at approximately 8:00 PM. Sheryl was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who also loved her family heritage.  Sheryl was a homemaker and a member of 29 th Avenue Baptist Church, Lake Station, Indiana under Pastor John Hurt Sr., where she taught Sunday school. She loved her hummingbirds, flowers, and crafting!  Sheryl was a very loving and caring person who touched many lives.

She is survived by her loving family, husband, Gary Ruble Brewer Sr. of Lake Station, Indiana, daughter, Christina Renae (Roger) Dooley of Lake Station, IN; two-sons, Gary Ruble (Tina) Brewer Jr. of Portage, Porter County, IN; Timothy Dewayne Brewer of Hobart, Lake County, IN.  Grandchildren: Kayela Renae Anna Marie, Andrew Bryson, Austin Bradley, Haley Nicole, Alexis Nicole, Arianna Marie, Sierra Ann(Kalvin) Weidner, Teah Michelle and Tryton Dewayne. Great-grandchildren:  Jaxon Avery Brewer, son of Kayela and Greyson Olious Legend Dabney, son of Teah and James Dabney. Brother: Elmer Ray "Pete" Higgins of Jasper, Marion County, TN. Sister:  Donna Sue (late John) Hajtovik of Lake Station, IN. Brothers-in-law:  Kenneth Randle (Debbie) Brewer Sr. of Cleveland, Bradley County, TN. Anthony Dewayne "Tony" (Kathy) Brewer Sr. of Crown Point, Lake County, IN.  Sisters-in law:  Linda Willadeen Reed-Coffman of Chesterton, Porter County, IN.  Beverly Page (Dave) Molnar of Portage, IN. Tina Marie Dilbeck of Portage, IN. Tammy Regina (Robert "Bob") Whisenant of Lake Station, IN. Cheryl (late Charles) Lenzo-Brewer.  Many nieces and nephews.

Proceeded in death by; her parents, George Bryson Higgins and MaryAnna Sexton, of Lake Station, IN, formerly of Jasper, Marion County, TN; parents-in-law, Charles Edward Brewer Sr. and wife, Pearl Marie McCurry of Lake Station, IN, formerly of Cleveland, Bradley County, TN. Sister; Kathy Lynn Higgins of Lake Station, Indiana, brothers-in-law; John Hajtovik of Lake Station, Indiana and Charles Edward Brewer Jr. of Lake Station, IN.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, IN with Reverend John Hurt Sr. officiating.  Family and friends may gather for visitation at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 from 2:00-8:00 P.M.  At rest: McCool Cemetery.

One of mom's last wishes to her family: "Tell my family to meet me in Heaven!"
