SHIRLEY E. GREER (Nee Raines), age 65 of Chesterton passed away Sunday, November 28, 2010. Shirley was born on January 14, 1945 in Jefferson City, Tennessee to Howard and Mary Raines. Shirley's family moved to Porter County and has been a Chesterton area residence for 60 years. Shirley was a member of Portage High School graduating class of 1963. Shirley married Donald Greer on Saturday November 21, 1964 at the Valparaiso Baptist Church and have just celebrated 46 years of marriage. Shirley was an employee of Porter Memorial Hospital in medical records and a CNA for a few years. She was a cook at Duneland School Corporation cafeteria for 20 years and worked for Carson Pierre Scott as a sales person for almost five years. Shirley was a member of the Red Hatter's, Sister's of Christ Ministry and Advanced Master Gardeners of Porter County and was an active member of Valparaiso Baptist Church and was a Sunday school teacher for 30 years. Shirley loved her church, gardening, family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister and will be missed by all. Shirley is survived by her loving husband Donald; son, John (Leanne) Greer of Valparaiso; brother, James Raines of Union Mills, IN; sisters, Anna Bell of La Porte IN, Dorothy (Les) Krause of Oakwood, GA, Helen Ackley of Westville, IN, Linda (George) Davis of Chesterton IN; 6 grandchildren; one great grandchild; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by parents Howard and Mary Raines, son Mark, sister Agnes Papaioannou and 2 brothers Harold and David Raines.Funeral service will be on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 12:00 noon from Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, with Rev. Robert D. Liedtke and Rev. Kenneth Gamblin officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery,Valparaiso. Visitation for Shirley will be on Thursday, December 2, 2010 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
