Shirley A. Milligan, age 77, of Hobart passed away September 28, 2017. She was born October 2, 1939 in Gary, Indiana to the late John and Katherine (Jama) Vasily. Shirley retired from the Valparaiso School District in 1996 where she worked as a cook. She was very creative. She loved sewing and painting.

Shirley is survived by her husband George; two children, Linda (Scott) Kimmel of Chesterton and Bill (Judy) Thompson of Indianapolis; two step-children, Cynthia (Jeff) Scroggins of Hobart and Rodney (Theresa) Milligan of Cincinnati, OH; five grandchildren, Taylor Bosse, Fred Bosse, Richard Thompson, Kimmie Thompson and Matthew Thompson; four step grandchildren, Alexandra (Joe) Purevich, Arielle (Jon) Bedoy, Elizabeth Milligan and Chelsae Hughes; two step-great grandchildren, Declan and Camila; and her special best friend Gerry Engle.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Richard Thompson.

Shirley's family wishes to thank the staffs of Valparaiso Life Care Center and the Porter County VNA Hospice for their excellent care and support during this difficult time.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday October 11, 2017 at St. Bridget Catholic Church 568 E. 2nd Street, Hobart, IN 46342 with Rev. Benjamin Ross officiating. Memorial visitation will be from 9:00 am until time of the Mass.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts are preferred to the Porter County VNA Hospice.
