Shirley E. Montpetit

Age 75, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2012 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 31, 1937 in Brasher Falls, New York, to the late Vernon and Josephine (nee Gaffney) Gray, and was a longtime Portage resident. She married her late husband Giles Bernard Montpetit in Hogansburg, New York on August 24, 1968. She retired from Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, where she worked as a registered nurse, in the Urgent Care. Shirley will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.She had a great devotion to the blessed Virgin, Mary and her Roman Catholic Faith.
She is survived by her 3 loving daughters; Michelle (Edward) Lipman of Willowbrook, Illinois, Nicole (Richard) Styczynski of Burr Ridge, Illinois, Mignon Montpetit (fiancée Charles Jolly) of Normal, Illinois, step son, Giles J. (Diane) Montpetit of Portage, grandchildren: Madison and Megan Lipman, Alexandra and Jonathan Styczynski, and Monique, Dominique and Cash Montpetit, 3 sisters; Eileen Vanderbilt of Rouses Point, New York, Betty Greathouse of Olympia, Washington and Charlotte Smith of Fort Covington, New York, many nieces, nephews and numerous other loving family members and friends.
Proceeded in death by her husband, her parents, and 4 brothers: John, Donald, Archie, and Bob Gray.
A 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the Nativity of Our Savior Church, 2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage, Indiana, with Rev. Andrew J. Corona officiating. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, Portage, Indiana. Visitation will be held just prior to service from 9:00-10:00am also at Nativity of Our Savior. In lieu of flowers donation to Nativity of Our Savior Catholic School would be appreciated.
