Shirley J. Poteet

Age 84 of Lake Station, Indiana, formerly of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on January 13, 2026, at her daughter's home. She was born on November 21, 1941, in Louisville, Kentucky. Shirley spent 26 dedicated years working for Kroger Grocery Store, beginning her career as a cashier and later working in the deli, where she became well known for her strong work ethic and friendly spirit.

Shirley was a wonderful cook who found joy in preparing meals for those she loved. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, and spending quiet moments reading. Her faith was an important part of her life; she read the bible four times and made it a daily practice to read from it. Shirley also enjoyed watching her favorite television programs, including The Incredible Dr. Pol, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

She loved the ocean, but above all else, Shirley cherished the time she spent with her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who brought her the greatest happiness and purpose.

Shirley will be remembered for her loving heart, strong faith and devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Steven) Bellamy; three grandchildren, Austin (Krystin) Coe, Danielle (Joshuan) Delbrey and Ashley Bellamy; two great-grandchildren, Memphis and Denver Coe; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Gritton and Kathy Thompson and brothers-in-law, Larry Forman and Victor Yearns and many other loving family members and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Robert Coe; daughter, Laura Coe; father, Eugene Thompson; mother, Evelyn (nee Carmen) Thompson; two brothers, Sonny Gritton and Jerry Thompson; three sisters, Bonnie (Wayne) Elder, Linda Forman and Patty Yearns.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 9 Arctic Spring Rd. Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Burial will take place on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Resthaven Memorial Louisville, Kentucky 40218.
