Shirlyn D. Owens, age 69, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017 at Saint Mary's Medical Center. She was born on November 16, 1947 to the late Otto and Imogene (nee Lampkins) Tate. She was a retired custodian for Lake Station School Systems. Shirlyn married Joseph R. Owens, on December 22, 1992 in Crown Point. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Shirlyn is survived by her husband of 24 years, Joseph Owens of Lake Station; three daughters, Karen (Charles) Cox of Lake Station, Denise (Daniel) Warren of Hebron and Tracy (Danny) DeVault of Rensselaer; brother, James (Darlene) Tate of Hanna; three sisters, Sue (Gene) Blades of Thompsonville, Illinois, Kay (Ronald) Redmon of Iowa and Lava (James) Stanley of Valparaiso; seven grandchildren, Erin (Christopher), Joshua, Matthew, Courtney, Zachary, Dylan and Conner ; numerous nephews and nieces and other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Ashley and her parents.
A funeral service for Shirlyn will take place Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 2:00 pm- 8:00pm also at Rees funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts are preferred to Alzheimer's Association, 50 E. 91st Street, STE 100 Indianapolis, Indiana 46209-4830.
