Sidney Scheeringa, age 79 of Hobart, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012. He was born on August 2, 1933 to the late William and Gertrude Scheeringa. He served his country Stateside in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Sidney owned and operated Sid's Produce for many years. He retired from the Carpenters Millwright Union Local #1043 and Teamsters Local 142. Sidney was a member of the Hobart Eagles AERIE #2498, and the American Legion Post 54 of Hobart. He loved playing his harmonica and during retirement he enjoyed providing landscaping services.
He is survived by 3 children, Dan (Sara) Scheeringa of WI; Alissa "Susie" Antonelli of Hobart, IN; David (Sheryl) Scheeringa of Hobart, IN; 4 brothers, Dick (Joann) Scheeringa, Bill (Betty) Scheeringa, Don (Barb) Scheeringa, Gerald Scheeringa, 1 sister, Loretta (Harry) Klar, 5 grandchildren, Rachael, Broc, Sallie, Hailey, Jakob, 2 great grandchildren, Devlin, and Levi, and also by his friends and neighbors, Karen and Emma Stavitzke , and Jim and Elaine Penrod.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra M. Scheeringa, infant daughter, Dana Scheeringa, 3 brothers, Bob, Tony, Marvin, and 1 sister, Dorothy.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Hobart.
